Why We Built It

We love karaoke. But most solutions out there fall short:

  • YouTube party solutions are either complicated to set up or force everyone onto one device.
  • In-person karaoke machines are bulky, expensive, and outdated.

We wanted something that just works. Open a browser, create a room, and go. No sign-ups. No ads. No friction. Free online karaoke should be simple, and now it is.

  • Backend: Node.js with Express, running on Vercel’s serverless infrastructure
  • Database: PostgreSQL via Neon (serverless, auto-scaling)
  • Frontend: Vanilla JavaScript single-page app with a custom CSS dark theme
  • YouTube Integration: The YouTube IFrame Player API for playback
  • Real-time: Simple polling every 3 seconds for queue and room state
  • QR Codes: Generated client-side using the QRCode.js library
  • PWA Ready: Installable on any device with a service worker and web manifest
